Well I woke up today and walked outside and there was a smell in the air. Not the cold wind blown smell of winter but the fresh, renewing smell of spring. So in the light of a new year beginning and it being spring I just want to highlight some of the wonderful things out of China last year and hope we don't have a repeat of them this year. Shanghai Daily CHINA is "deeply concerned" over Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing today. (Thats it, thats the entire story. "deeply concerned" Yes I would say they are. With no less the 2 Provinces and 3 if you count Taiwan wanting independence or some sort of self rule (Hong Kong). I would say China does have things to worry about. If the world accepts this independence and other independence else where then it puts a lot of pressure on China to also allow this. more... Death toll tops 100 in wake of snow disaster Shanghai Daily Web page.  Pic outsie my house in Shanghai CHINA'S worst snowstorms in five decades have killed at least 107 people nationwide while economic losses topped 111.1 billion yuan (US$15.48 billion) as of Tuesday, Civil Affairs Minister Li Xueju said yesterday. Eight people are still missing. (I can personally attest to this storm. It hardly ever snows in Shanghai but this year it snowed for almost 10 days straight. This is over Chinese New Year. It is kind of nice to be so far away during election time. I can set back and watch everyone fight and not feel so attached to one guy or the other. I used to be very active in my State Republican Party. I have ran for State Rep. and other local offices. sadly I have never won. However, I have always said the only way to get a perfect candidate for yourself is to run yourself. So seeing as there are no perfect candidates and the one I wanted isn't running and the two I supported have dropped out I will support the one who is closest to my beliefs. China's top authority on social order said it would enhance the surveillance and control over "virtue communities" of the Internet in its annual work guidelines of 2008. (virtue community is an undefined term as of yet. The CPC has a habit of leaving these things vague at best, this way when they arrest you, give you a speedy trial, put you in prison and sell your kidneys to a Japanese man no one can complain.) more...
