Seeing how I live in China and one of the main things I can do to kill the boredom is watch movies I have started a movie review section. However, this is China so the movies I buy are all pirated. Do I feel like a thief, hmm No not really. Do I feel a little guilty at all. NOPE not one bit. To tell the truth I enjoy the 5 rmb(75 cent) move purchase. So on to the first review. DVD Title: "The Golden Compass" Director: Chris Weitz Cast: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards Story: There are many universes and they are all connected by a magical dust. The people in this universe have souls that take the form of animals and walk beside them. An old religious order is the "Authority" in this universe and they are trying to cover up the fact that the dust exist. They are doing this by trying to separate children from their souls. DVD Quality: The DVD I purchases was a copy of one that the studios sent out for critical viewing. Its picture quality was good and the sound was fine. The only annoyance was an occasional "For Your Consideration" graphic that would pop up at the bottom. Almost didn't even notice it. White Devil Comments: I had heard a lot about this movie on some conservative web sites. I find the critics on those web sites need to lighten up a little bit. I did not see anything that was overtly anti-conservative anti-American. In fact I find it a conservative movie. An oppressive government is taking away the rights of the citizens. Yes it is true that in this case the government is a religious one. This does not mean it is a Christian one. We can look at our world right now, especial in the Middle East and see exactly what is going on here. The world is flat, the moon is half the size of the sun and the earth rotates around the sun. 1 guess what religion is saying that. I avoided getting this movie for a long time because of some of the critics I had read. Sometimes a movie is just a movie. I recommend this movie to everyone.
